Hey all.  I’ve been away too long.  To make up for it I’ve launched a new website featuring my work and a news reel for short blurbs.  Feel free to follow me on twitter as well @frittish.  Let me know what you all think. Peace, J.

Teaching myself anything is a chore.  With art my imagination tries to take over and thinks way faster than my hand and when I physically can’t keep up I get bothered and upset at the result.  One thing I’ve been trying to do is more research.  I’ve been looking at other people’s work, slowing myself […]

So I’m learning to appreciate still lifes, mainly because I’m looking at them now as a means of learning rather than as an assignment.  I can teach myself proper portion rendering and how to imply shape without drawing it.  Something we all took for granted in art class is in fact a really powerful learning […]

So at random I’ll have lunch at work with my buddy Chris.  Needless to say we will draw most times.  This time we drew each other… and only noticed that we were both doing it after we had stopped talking for a few minutes. Mine of Maue. Maue’s of me. J.

I got to go hangout with some friends at Black Thorn Pub & Pizza and eat the remaining slice of pizza they had and sip some warm beer by buddy Andrew failed to finish.  Since I had wanted to be some what productive that evening I brought along a sketch book.  As I’m known as […]

What is Art? The thesaurus gives us these alternatives: skill, craft, technique, knack, facility, ability, know-how.  I think these words lend more to the public perception of the word art than its actual definition. “the expression or application of human creative skill and imagination… producing works to be appreciated primarily for their beauty or emotional power” .  I like […]

Went over to my friend Chris’s place to drink coffee and draw.  Ever since I picked up a pencil and started drawing I’ve been a little scared of drawing with pens.  The whole no eraser bit always scared me.  Discovering technical pens was really helpful because they give you great control and minimal bleed.  So […]

I got to tattoo a friend from work last night.  He had been wanting the roman numeral six on his wrist. The drawing I did for him.  Again I drew this on him with a sharpie as the stencil.  Still have no stencil machine. The finished tattoo. Thanks Vince!

For my second tattoo I got to work on a really great person and friend of mine.  She wanted a picture from the story A Boy, a Dog, a Frog, and a Friend.  It was a fun collaboration working out what we were going to keep and what to leave out. The stencil. Great illustration […]
